Secret Mode and Lab42 Games have announced A Storied Life: Tabitha, a wholesome puzzler about memory, legacy, and the stories we leave behind. Launching in early 2026 on PC, the game asks players to sort through the belongings of a recently deceased loved one and use those objects to reconstruct a ruined memoir.
Players will step into the shoes of someone tasked with packing up a country house room by room. Every cupboard, drawer, and rug hides items that carry a story, but only some can be saved. Limited space and weight restrictions mean you’ll have to make tough choices about which possessions to keep, sell, or discard.
From Trinkets to Tales
Every object you decide to keep unlocks words and phrases that can be used to repair your loved one’s memoir. Choosing different words alters the narrative, shaping how this person will be remembered, whether as a kind parent, an eccentric collector, or even a solitary recluse. With each chapter, the memoir grows into a personalized story influenced directly by your decisions.
The publisher who commissioned the memoir may not always appreciate your creative liberties, but A Storied Life: Tabitha emphasizes that memory is subjective, and each version of the story is uniquely valid.
Gentle Puzzles with Heart
Packing isn’t just about decisions; it’s also a puzzle in itself. Objects need to be rotated, stacked, and fitted into boxes, with bubble wrap, tape, and vacuum-packing ensuring fragile or bulky items survive the journey. The mechanics add a tactile and relaxing layer, balancing the emotional weight of the story with light, cozy gameplay.
A Storied Collaboration
Lab42 Games, known for their work on wholesome hits like A Little to the Left and Wobbledogs Console Edition, are stepping out with their own original IP in collaboration with publisher Secret Mode. Together, they’ve created a heartfelt game that mixes meditative puzzles with branching narrative storytelling.
A Storied Life: Tabitha is set to launch on PC in early 2026 and is available to wishlist on Steam now.
