Bread & Fred Brings Its Brutal Co-Op Platforming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

The adorable but notoriously punishing co-op platformer Bread & Fred is expanding its console footprint. Publisher Infogrames, a subsidiary of Atari, and developer Sand Castles Studios have announced that Bread & Fred will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on February 24, 2026, priced at $14.99.

The new console release joins the game’s existing availability on Steam, GOG.com, Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch, bringing its unique brand of teamwork-driven chaos to even more players.

A Test of Friendship at the Top of the Mountain

Bread & Fred is a tightly designed co-op platformer built entirely around collaboration. Players control two penguins, Bread and Fred, who are physically tethered together as they attempt to climb a towering, snow-covered mountain. Every jump, swing, and landing requires precision and communication, as a single misstep can send both penguins tumbling back down.

The game’s difficulty comes not just from its platforming challenges, but from the constant tension between partners. Success depends on trust, timing, and the ability to stay calm when everything goes wrong because it often will.

The Laboratory Update Comes to Consoles

Console players won’t just be getting the base experience. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions also include the Laboratory Update, a major content expansion that effectively doubled the game’s scope.

This update introduces a brand-new 666-meter map filled with fresh mechanics, new NPCs, additional lore, and multiple puzzle-focused rooms packed with secrets. The Laboratory Update adds variety and depth to the climb, giving returning players new challenges and newcomers even more ways to test their teamwork.
