Kalanoro Brings Malagasy Folklore and Musical Action to PC and Consoles in Summer 2026

Red Raketa Studio and New Tales have announced Kalanoro, a colorful action-adventure inspired by Malagasy folklore. The game is set to launch in Summer 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch, with a demo available now on Steam.

Kalanoro follows Kalakely, a small, fluffy Kalanoro pulled into a prophecy and sent across the island of Lemuria to fight back against the witch Raneny.

Save the World by Starting a Band

The story takes place in Lemuria, a vibrant island world ruled by Raneny, who plans to stage a concert in her own honor. To stop her, Kalakely sets out to recruit legendary musicians, build a band, and turn the road trip into a rebellion.

The game blends platforming, combat, and band-building, with players traveling across lively biomes, avoiding traps, and taking on theatrical boss encounters along the way.

Hair-Powered Combat and Musical Road Trips

Combat in Kalanoro uses Kalakely’s hair-powered abilities alongside improvised weapons like slippers and frying pans. As players progress, they can unlock new abilities and refine their playstyle across handcrafted levels built around momentum and hazards.

Between fights, players rescue lemur artists, manage the band’s happiness, and travel aboard a rusty bush-taxi that serves as both home base and tour bus. The soundtrack features Malagasy artists including Denise, Jyeuhair, and Marco Klarck.

A Malagasy-Led Indie Project

Kalanoro is developed by Red Raketa Studio, an indie team based in Madagascar. The game draws from Malagasy folklore, music, and artistic culture, using hand-drawn visuals and animation powered by Unreal Engine.

Kalanoro launches in Summer 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. A Steam demo is available now.
