Riyo Games and Balor Games have released a new gameplay deep dive for Threads of Time, offering a closer look at the Needle, the time-traveling vessel that serves as the centerpiece of the game’s era-spanning adventure.
The video debuted during Day of the Devs on June 5 and provides new details on how players will travel across the game’s many time periods.
A Journey Across Time
Threads of Time is a turn-based RPG inspired by genre classics such as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy. The game combines 2.5D pixel art visuals with modern design ideas as players assemble a party of heroes pulled from different eras to stop a threat that could unravel the timeline itself.
The newly revealed gameplay footage focuses on the Needle, a timeship that allows players to travel between vastly different historical periods.
Exploring Past and Future
According to the deep dive, players will use the Needle to move between locations that range from dinosaur-filled prehistoric landscapes to advanced futuristic civilizations.
The developers tease that even stranger destinations await as the story progresses, with each era featuring its own environments, characters, and challenges.
The Needle serves as the connective thread between these worlds, allowing players to experience the game’s timeline-spanning adventure and uncover the mystery at the story’s center.
Inspired by JRPG Classics
Threads of Time aims to capture the spirit of classic turn-based RPGs while modernizing the experience for a new audience.
Its combination of pixel-art visuals, time-travel storytelling, and party-based combat has drawn comparisons to Chrono Trigger, while the developers continue to expand on those influences with original mechanics and world-building.
Threads of Time is currently in development for PC via Steam and Xbox Series X|S.
