Bliss Brain has released the official 7-day countdown trailer for 70s-style Robot Anime Geppy-X, ahead of its July 16 launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft Store, and Steam.
The trailer looks back at the cult PlayStation shooter’s history, its over-the-top production, and the fan support that helped bring it back for a new global release.
A Cult PlayStation Shooter Returns
Originally released in Japan in 1999, Geppy-X built its identity around classic super robot anime. The game included more than 8,000 hand-drawn animation frames, fake TV commercials, next-episode previews, dramatic eyecatches, and songs performed by Isao Sasaki, Akira Kushida, and Hironobu Kageyama.
The voice cast also featured major anime talent, including Akira Kamiya, Sho Hayami, Shuichi Ikeda, Ichiro Nagai, and Goro Naya.
Restored From Original Materials
This remaster uses HD animation digitized from the original Betacam tapes provided by the animation studio. Players can view the remastered animation or switch back to the original movie versions.
The full base game is included at launch, not split off as paid DLC. The remaster also adds modern quality-of-life improvements and multiple language options, marking the game’s first official release for a wider audience.
Creator Akira Yamato Reflects on Geppy-X
Original scenario writer and planner Akira Yamato shared a message about the game’s return, saying the team “never wanted to make it smart.”
Yamato described Geppy-X as excessive and over-the-top, but also sincere. He said every parody, homage, and small detail came from the team’s love for the entertainment that shaped their childhood.
He also thanked the fans who kept the game alive after its difficult 1999 release, saying this new version exists because people believed it deserved another chance.
