Spike Chunsoft has shared new details on Danganronpa 2×2, including its new Slayhem mode, enhanced 3D World Map, and updated character portraits. The game is now planned to launch in North America and Europe in early 2027.
Danganronpa 2×2 is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
Slayhem Changes the Killing Game
Danganronpa 2×2 includes two story modes from the start: Original and Slayhem.
Original mode retells Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair with upgraded visuals and updated presentation for modern platforms. Slayhem mode takes the same setup and sends it in a different direction, with alternate victims, culprits, tricks, and story events.
Spike Chunsoft says Slayhem includes about 20% more content than Original mode, offering returning players a new version of the killing game rather than a simple remaster.
A New Way to Explore the Island
The World Map has also received a major update. Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair used a side-scrolling map to navigate between locations, while Danganronpa 2×2 introduces a 3D World Map that offers players a clearer view of the island.
Players can run across the map freely or fast travel directly to selected destinations. The first-person view is also designed to give the island a stronger tropical atmosphere.
New Character Art and Early 2027 Launch
Danganronpa 2×2 will feature new character portraits, with revamped illustrations for the cast.
Producer Shohei Sakakibara also confirmed that the game has moved from its planned 2026 release to early 2027. A specific release date will be announced later.
Danganronpa 2×2 launches in early 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
