Unknown Worlds has released the second Early Access update for Subnautica 2, adding new co-op features built around communication, teamwork, and survival under pressure.
The studio also announced a $100,000 donation to The Ocean Cleanup.
Proximity Voice Chat Arrives
The update’s main addition is proximity voice chat.
Player voices now use distance-based spatial audio, meaning nearby teammates sound louder and more directional, while voices fade as players move farther apart underwater.
Revives Add More Team Pressure
Subnautica 2 also now has a revive system.
When a player loses all health, they enter a downed state instead of dying right away. A teammate can bring them back within a limited window, adding more tension to co-op survival runs.
More Co-Op Tools Added
The update also adds an emote system for players who do not use voice chat.
Players can now access a teammate’s inventory to hand over resources, while other co-op improvements include throwable location tags, signal system updates, and base-building changes.
Unknown Worlds Donates to The Ocean Cleanup
Alongside the update, Unknown Worlds donated $100,000 to The Ocean Cleanup, a nonprofit focused on removing plastic pollution from oceans.
Executive Producer Fernando Melo said Subnautica began with a love for the ocean, and that the studio wants to keep supporting conservation work tied to that theme.
Subnautica 2 is available now in Early Access on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and the Epic Games Store.
