Danchi Days is available now on Steam for Windows and Mac, with Steam Deck support. The slice-of-life adventure from the co-creator of Anodyne and Angeline Era costs $14.99, with a 10% launch discount.
Players follow 12-year-old Hoshino as she returns to her Japanese hometown to live with her grandmother, who has dementia. Hoping to cheer her up, Hoshino decides to bring back the neighborhood’s summer festival. Getting everyone involved means meeting the residents, dealing with opposition, and learning more about the place she calls home.
Bring the Neighborhood Together
The adventure takes place in a danchi, a Japanese mass housing complex. Its residents include chatty seniors, frustrated high-schoolers, and adults trying to manage everyday life.
Hoshino’s festival plans bring her into contact with these different generations, each offering another perspective on the neighborhood. The story mixes comedy with more bittersweet moments as she learns forgotten truths about the community and faces people who don’t want the festival to return.
Her efforts extend beyond conversations around the housing complex. An in-game internet lets players browse websites and learn about the neighbors, though some corners of the web feel more threatening. Not everyone shares Hoshino’s enthusiasm, and her online browsing reflects that tension.
Find Festival Offerings With a Kappa Sidekick
Hoshino is joined by Moro-Q, a kappa who helps her search for the five offerings needed to revive the festival. Their search takes them through forests and buildings around the danchi.
Along the way, players tackle “Sense Games,” minigames based on unusual interactions with their surroundings. Examples include smelling trees, hugging plushies, and listening to toilets—a fair indication of the adventure’s stranger sense of humor.
Try Chapter 1 in the Steam Demo
A roughly 30-minute demo covering Chapter 1 is available on Steam, offering a chance to meet Hoshino and sample the adventure before buying.
The full game supports English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese. A digital soundtrack is also available separately for $9.99 through Steam and Bandcamp.
