Squadron 42 is now available to wishlist on Steam, with Cloud Imperium Games targeting a Q2 2027 release. The single-player sci-fi adventure takes place in the Star Citizen universe and features Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, and Henry Cavill.
A new trailer offers another look at its story, space battles, and performance-captured characters.
Join the UEE Navy as a Rookie Recruit
Set in 2945, Squadron 42 follows a rookie joining the United Empire of Earth Navy as outlaws and hostile alien forces threaten the Empire.
You’ll serve aboard a capital ship, work alongside its crew, and build relationships as assignments pull you deeper into a galactic war. Missions take you through space stations, frontier outposts, and active combat zones.
The campaign combines cockpit dogfights with ground combat, stealth, exploration, and interactive cinematic sequences. Quieter moments aboard ship give you time with the people fighting alongside you.
Mark Hamill and Gary Oldman Lead the Ensemble Cast
Alongside Hamill, Oldman, Anderson, and Cavill, the cast includes Ben Mendelsohn, Andy Serkis, John Rhys-Davies, Jonathan Bailey, Mark Strong, Alix Wilton Reagan, Damson Idris, Liam Cunningham, and Jane Perry.
Cloud Imperium Games says full performance capture brings the crew, allies, and enemies into both cinematics and gameplay, keeping character interactions part of the playable experience.
The game runs on the studio’s proprietary StarEngine, which supports detailed environments and transitions between gameplay and cinematic scenes.
A Standalone Story Planned for Q2 2027
Squadron 42 tells a standalone story within the same setting as Star Citizen. It focuses on a single-player military campaign that follows your recruit through humanity’s conflict.
The planned Q2 2027 window covers April through June. Cloud Imperium Games has not announced a specific release date.
