Suri: The Seventh Note is available now on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. The debut rhythm action platformer from Bengaluru-based Tathvamasi Studios arrives alongside its prequel DLC, Trials of Yama, following three days of early access for Digital Deluxe Edition owners.
Developed over nearly four years with support from the PlayStation India Hero Project, Suri builds its action around music, illustrated environments, and cultural influences from across India.
The new gameplay trailer focuses on escape sequences, with protagonist Ajira racing through environments that react to the rhythm.
Indian Regional Influences Shape the Art and Music
Tathvamasi researched different regions of India while developing the game’s biomes. The Desert draws on Rajput architecture and culture, the Forest incorporates references to Kerala’s tribal cultures and Theyyam aesthetics, and the Mountain takes inspiration from Sikkimese architecture.
Rather than directly adapting mythological characters and stories, the studio used that research to inform an original setting and cast.
The approach extends to the soundtrack. According to Tathvamasi, 80% of the game’s music was recorded using acoustic or analogue instruments rather than electronic synthesis. The score includes violin, bamboo flutes, veena, Carnatic female vocals, and percussion instruments such as idakkai and ghanjira.
Finding the Right Beat for Platforming
The team settled on a 480-millisecond interval between main beats after experimenting with how the music translated to controller inputs. That timing underpins a bouncy musical structure combining hip-hop-like arrangements with Indian instrumentation.
Support from the PlayStation India Hero Project also contributed to the studio’s Rhythm Haptics Engine and its work on the PS5 version.
Trials of Yama Follows Ajira’s Mother
The Trials of Yama DLC takes place before the main game, casting players as a young Jaya, Ajira’s mother. She enters Yamlok, the Domain of Death, to confront Lord Yama and reunite with her love, Veer.
The DLC introduces challenge rooms, puzzles, and new enemies built around Suri’s rhythm magic. It comes with the Deluxe Edition and is available separately.
The announcement lists the Standard Edition at $19.99 and the Deluxe Edition at $24.99, alongside a 20% launch discount. Deluxe includes the base game, Trials of Yama, and an exclusive Chandini Skin that will not be sold separately.
