Messhof has revealed Blood Dungeon, a new action roguelike from the creators of Nidhogg. Announced during Day of the Devs: Summer Game Fest Edition, the game is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in late summer 2026.
A playable demo is available now on Steam ahead of Steam Next Fest. Blood Dungeon will also be playable at Summer Game Fest: Play Days.
A Return to Messhof’s Movement-Focused Roots
Blood Dungeon brings Messhof back to fast, frantic 2D action built around movement, timing, and survival.
Players will parkour through dangerous dungeons, kite monsters, collect blood, grab powerups, and try to survive long enough to cash in their rewards. Surviving a run lets players take earned bones to the Bone Shop, where they can unlock upgrades and grow stronger.
Built From a Small Side Project
Messhof co-founder Mark Essen said Blood Dungeon began as a small Game Maker sketch that slowly grew over several years.
He described the project as a low-pressure side game made in small pockets of time, with much of the animation created on a small tablet while traveling or waiting around. That loose process helped shape the game’s compact, fast, and replayable design.
Characters, Arenas, and Quests
Blood Dungeon will include nine unlockable playable characters, each with different traits and weapons.
Players can also unlock six unique survival arenas, complete more than 100 quests, and experiment with over 100 weapons and upgrades. The game features more than 100 enemy types, giving each run plenty of room for chaos.
Dungeon DnB Soundtrack
The action will be backed by a dynamic “dungeon dnb” soundtrack from Thomas Hooey, matching the game’s fast movement and pixel-art combat.
Blood Dungeon launches in late summer 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
