Marvelous USA has announced Muramasa: Revenant Blades, a new revival of Vanillaware’s classic 2D action-RPG Muramasa: Rebirth. Revealed during the latest Nintendo Direct, the game is set to launch in early 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
The release also marks Vanillaware’s first game on PC.
The Complete Muramasa Returns
Originally released on Wii in 2009, then on PlayStation Vita in 2013 as Muramasa: Rebirth, Muramasa: Revenant Blades brings the side-scrolling action-RPG back with modern upgrades.
The new version includes all six playable storylines from the start. Players can experience the tales of Momohime, Kisuke, Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru, and Rajaki in any order they choose.
A Tale of Cursed Swords and Bloodshed
Set deep in Japan’s past, Muramasa: Revenant Blades follows a conflict over powerful samurai swords forged by Senji Muramasa.
These blades grant incredible strength, but also drive their wielders into bloodlust. As factions clash over the weapons, demons and spirits drawn to the violence spread across the land.
Each of the game’s six protagonists becomes tied to these cursed blades in their own way.
New Visuals, Combat, and Voiceover
Muramasa: Revenant Blades has been refined for modern platforms, with support for up to 4K resolution, updated controls, new combat and weapon systems, and additional modes.
The game features more than 100 swords to forge, with dozens of skills to upgrade and customize. It will also include a new localization, full English voiceover, and additional language support.

Physical pre-orders will open through the Marvelous USA Online Store and participating retailers.
The standard physical edition will cost $49.99 on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, while the Nintendo Switch 2 version will cost $59.99 and include the full game on the cartridge.
