The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Remake Release Date Window Set

This morning’s big Nintendo Direct concluded with a brief trailer for one of the most critically-acclaimed video games of all time — The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Though the majority of the video is spent showing a tapestry as a hefty voice narrates the lore behind the game, viewers briefly see Link (as a child) shifting about whilst sleeping as the Triforce glows on his left hand, setting up the iconic beginning of the first 3D Zelda game. As the trailer ends, it’s revealed that the remake will be released for the Nintendo Switch 2 at some point in 2026.

Is this the first time The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was remade?

This upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 release isn’t actually the first time Ocarina of Time has gotten remade, as it was remade on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2011. Dubbed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, this remake had vastly updated visuals, stereoscopic 3D, content from Ocarina of Time Master Quest, and several quality-of-life changes. It did well both critically and commercially, which led to 2015’s The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D — a similar remake of the N64 follow-up.
