Shadowlight and Phoenix Games have announced that Kill the Shadow will launch for PC via Steam on August 5, 2026. The detective RPG sends players into Dark Tide City, where murder cases, old grudges, and a strange entity tied to the protagonist all point toward a larger conspiracy.
A free Steam demo is available now for players who want to start the investigation before launch.
Reconstruct the Final Moments
Kill the Shadow follows Lucas, a former detective with a supernatural Shadow attached to his back.
The Shadow can reconstruct the final moments of the dead, letting Lucas study crime scenes as they happened. Players will use this power to sort through evidence, expose lies, and connect cases across the city.
The story begins with the strange death of Teddy, Captain Theo’s powerful dog. What looks like an isolated case pulls Lucas into a series of linked mysteries tied to Dark Tide City’s past.

Players can shape Lucas around deduction, intelligence, charm, persuasion, or force. Conversations, investigations, and key choices can shift how the story plays out.
Cases will also ask players to judge, forgive, or condemn those responsible, leading to multiple endings based on your decisions.
A Chinese Cyber-Noir Setting
Dark Tide City combines detailed 3D environments with animated 2D pixel-art characters.
Players will investigate abandoned factories, flooded docklands, temple districts, shipwreck areas, and walled city spaces while meeting residents with their own motives, secrets, and losses.
