Best Story – Guardians of the Galaxy

Diego: It’s very rare to come across a purely single player campaign that grips me quite like Guardians of the Galaxy did. I was hooked from the start, with the voice actors completely nailing their roles and some of the funniest writing I’ve seen in a game in years. The amount of dialog in this game is staggering, and I honestly can’t think of a single noticeably bad line. It’s already hard enough to write a good game, but to have characters spit out this much dialogue at such a rapid pace and for it to stay so consistently good you don’t tire of hearing the characters is unheard of.

Spencer: I love the Guardians of the Galaxy in any form they take; be it comic, film, or, now, game. The story of Guardians of the Galaxy gets you invested fast in this new but familiar iteration of the Guardians. They feel like a proper dysfunctional family, and their banter simply never gets old. The stakes feel personal, the characters, both famous and niche, are rich and interesting, and Star-Lord is the perfect leading man. There are lots of nods to other Guardians and cosmic Marvel characters throughout, making the game’s story feel like an extension of an already existing universe. I was riveted for the entire time, and you just might be too.

Joe: Around 2007 a young Joe picked up a comic book called “The Annihilation Wave” and fell in love. Years later the Guardians of The Galaxy form in sequel comics to this event and he falls in love again. Even more years later a hit film about the Guardians gets made and he falls in love more than he thought possible. Now, here we are with the Guardians first solo game and he fall in love with the team all over again cementing them as possibly his favorite group of all time. What Edios-Montreal did here is nothing short of amazing. Pulling from every iteration of the team and still adding their distinct voice to them and possibly making the greatest Marvel video game ever made. I can’t wait to see what they take the Guardians next.
