Developer The Fine Arc and indie publisher First Break Labs took to PAX East with a chilling new walkthrough of Cthulhu’s Reach: Devil Reef, the action roguelike co-op dungeon crawler drenched in Lovecraftian madness. The new video gives fans a fresh look at playable character Florence, a deadly flamethrower, and a completely overhauled incantation system that imbues players with occult powers—and curses.
The game is available now in Steam Early Access, and the latest update is one of the biggest since launch.
The Incantation System Gets a Dark Rework
The update introduces a fully revamped incantation system with over 20 incantations that can drastically alter your stats and playstyle. Whether you’re boosting health, reducing sanity loss, or becoming more effective with certain weapons, these incantations provide a risk-reward hook that’s as eldritch as it is empowering.
Set Everything Ablaze with the New Flamethrower
Nothing says “cosmic horror” like a portable inferno. The new flamethrower weapon allows players to burn groups of enemies, leaving behind fires that can continue dealing damage to anything foolish enough to walk through them. It’s ideal for crowd control—and adds another layer of tactical madness when things get overwhelming.
Say Hello to the New Deep One
A reimagined version of the Deep One enemy now lurks in Act 2, and it’s been redesigned to be larger, more aggressive, and significantly deadlier. It’s just one of the many ways Devil Reef keeps players on their toes, offering up unpredictable horrors in every new run.
Explore Eldritch Horrors, Alone or in Co-Op
In Cthulhu’s Reach: Devil Reef, you play as a desperate treasure hunter burdened by debt, diving headfirst into the cursed town of Innsmouth in search of legendary gold buried beneath Devil Reef. Whether you’re solo or joined by up to three other players, the game’s atmospheric pixel art, oppressive soundtrack, and ‘90s dungeon-crawling nostalgia ooze from every cryptic corner.
