Sea of Stars’ Free Throes of the Watchmaker DLC Is Out Now – Adds New Quest, Ally, and Combat Classes

Sabotage Studio is giving fans of Sea of Stars a generous encore today with the launch of Throes of the Watchmaker, a completely free DLC that adds eight hours of new content to the award-winning RPG. Available now on all platforms, the update expands the game’s world, story, and party lineup while maintaining the same level of polish that earned the base game over 6 million players and a Best Indie win at The Game Awards.

A Clockwork Carnival of Chaos

Throes of the Watchmaker takes Zale and Valere into Horloge, a bizarre and whimsical new miniature world crafted by the enigmatic Watchmaker. But this dreamlike realm isn’t all gears and good vibes—a cursed carnival is tearing the place apart, and our Solstice Warriors have to set things right.

The new storyline begins as the duo seeks help from the Watchmaker, only to be asked for help in return. That request sets off a colorful quest to help fan-favorite pirate Keenathan reclaim his true name, all while fending off a mischief-making Puppeteer and his twisted minions.

New Classes, Ally, and Carnival Shenanigans

Alongside the new world and storyline, the DLC shakes up the core party dynamic with:

  • New Combat Classes – Zale becomes a Jugger, while Valere transforms into an Acrobat, each with brand-new abilities tailored to Horloge’s strange mechanics.
  • New Playable Ally – Enter the Artificer, a laser-wielding sharpshooter who joins the fight with her own flashy skills and combo synergy.
  • Carnival Minigames – It wouldn’t be a Sea of Stars update without optional minigames. This time, the devs go full carnival, bringing in all-new distractions plus the return of Wheels, the beloved tabletop side game.
  • More Stunning Cutscenes – Sabotage gave the DLC the same cinematic budget as the base game, so expect new animated sequences that punch above their indie weight.
  • Original Soundtrack Additions – Composer Eric W. Brown returns with new tracks, joined again by Chrono Trigger’s Yasunori Mitsuda for select tunes.

Download Now, Discounts for New Players

The Throes of the Watchmaker DLC is free for all Sea of Stars players and available now on PC, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. For those just jumping in, a limited-time discount makes the base game even more accessible:

    • 35% off on Steam (May 20 – June 3)
    • 35% off on Switch (NA) (May 20 – June 8)
    • 35% off on Xbox (May 20 – June 2)
    • 35% off on PlayStation (SIEA) (May 21 – June 11)

Sea of Stars was already one of 2023’s strongest RPGs, and Throes of the Watchmaker looks to reinforce that legacy with another chapter of clever combat, vibrant visuals, and nostalgic charm. Whether you’re a returning fan or just arriving in Vanelith, now’s a great time to take a trip through time.
