Windup Games and publisher Knights Peak have announced that Hela, their enchanting third-person open-world adventure inspired by Scandinavian folklore, is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. Originally revealed for PC and next-gen consoles, the Switch 2 version was confirmed during the latest Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, accompanied by a brand-new trailer.
Set in a stunning Scandinavian landscape, Hela tells the story of a kind-hearted Witch who has spent her life healing others—but now she’s fallen ill. Players take on the role of her magical familiars—nimble, spell-wielding mice—on a heartfelt journey to cure their beloved companion.
A Cozy Quest Rooted in Folklore
Hela is a game about exploration, empathy, and connection. Combining light action, puzzle-solving, potion-brewing, and foraging, the game emphasizes meaningful gameplay over spectacle, weaving a narrative that’s equal parts cozy and compelling. The announcement trailer offers a first glimpse at the game’s lush wilderness, puzzle-filled ruins, and magical creature companions.
“Hela is a title that speaks directly to the tastes and expectations of the Nintendo audience,” said Alexander Benitez, Head of Studio at Windup Games. “We’re honored to bring the game to Switch 2, where players can enjoy it both on the go and on the big screen.”
Knights Peak VP Eugenio Vitale added:
“Hela is all about comfort and meaning—values that resonate deeply with Nintendo fans. The Switch 2 is the perfect home for it.”

A hands-off gameplay demo and Q&A session is scheduled for August 14 at 1 PM EDT / 10 AM PDT for members of the press and industry. Interested media can request access directly via the game’s contact channels.
