Nexon Games has officially unveiled Woochi the Wayfarer, a high-end single-player action-adventure game steeped in traditional Korean culture and mythology. Set during Korea’s Joseon era and inspired by the classic tale The Tale of Jeon Woochi, the game will launch globally on PC and consoles via Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox.
A cinematic teaser trailer offers the first look at its vibrant yet mysterious world, showcasing dense forests, ominous rituals, and a tense standoff between Jeon Woochi and the shaman Myoan. Built in Unreal Engine 5, Woochi the Wayfarer promises lush, realistic environments infused with magical elements and a soundtrack composed by Jung Jae-il (Parasite, Squid Game), blending traditional Korean music with cinematic flair.
Magic, Monsters, and Myth
Players will step into the role of Jeon Woochi, a trickster mage who uses wit and magic to battle injustice. The game draws from Korea’s rich folklore, featuring mythical creatures, spiritual incantations, and lore-accurate cultural details. Expect a deeply immersive narrative driven by cinematic storytelling and fast-paced magical combat, with an emphasis on atmosphere and exploration.
LoreVault Studio, the developer behind the project, is working closely with experts in Korean literature, traditional music, and historical preservation to authentically recreate the Joseon era in 3D. The team has even conducted location scouting at real cultural sites across Korea to ensure the environments reflect historical accuracy while supporting the game’s fantasy tone.
Aiming for Global Appeal
According to Nexon Games CEO Park Yong-hyun, Woochi the Wayfarer is designed to be both culturally distinct and universally engaging:
“Woochi the Wayfarer will provide a fresh and unique play experience that is based on traditional Korean materials while also having an emotional resonance that anyone around the world can relate to. We plan to present a game that will appeal to gamers of all cultures, telling an amazing story that fully showcases Nexon Games’ development capabilities and accumulated experience.”
With its combination of Korean folklore, high-end visuals, and a character-driven narrative, Woochi the Wayfarer is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious original projects in NEXON’s history.
