Obsidian Entertainment is giving players a closer look at the crew of misfits who’ll accompany them across the Halcyon colonies in The Outer Worlds 2. Shown during Gamescom’s Xbox showcase, the new trailer highlights both fresh gameplay and the six Companion characters who’ll join players on their cosmic journey.
Meet the New Companions
The trailer introduced six colorful personalities, each bringing their own quirks, skills, and sidequests to the table:
- Niles – an Earth Directorate Agent with a sharp tongue and sharper agenda.
- V.A.L.E.R.I.E. – a floating drone medic who keeps the squad alive, whether they like her bedside manner or not.
- Aza – a bloodthirsty cultist whose devotion to chaos may rival her devotion to the player.
- Inez – a pragmatic field medic balancing duty and dry wit in equal measure.
- Marisol – a pistol-toting gunfighter with no patience for incompetence.
- Tristan – a hammer-wielding powerhouse who brings both muscle and moral conviction.
As the trailer cheekily declares: “They’ve got guts, they’ve got gear, they’ve got sidequests.”
Gameplay and Exploration
Alongside the companion reveals, the trailer teased new environments, firefights, and the trademark Obsidian dialogue choices that can sway missions in wildly different directions. Companions will bring unique combat abilities, banter, and moral dilemmas to the adventure, shaping both gameplay and story in meaningful ways.
Launch Date and Availability
The Outer Worlds 2 lands on October 29, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud, Steam, Battle.net, and PlayStation 5. It will also be available day one with Game Pass, giving subscribers instant access to the next chapter in Obsidian’s satirical space-faring saga.
