Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes Unveils Extended Gameplay Trailer

Publisher Dotemu and independent development studio Alt Shift released a new extended gameplay trailer for their title Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes. The trailer goes over gameplay both in and out of combat. Showcasing the UI, story beats, and management tasks you’ll be required to perform in this roguelite space strategy game.

Alt Shift is the developer behind the hit tactical roguelite Crying Suns, a space strategy game with heavy sci-fi elements. This should come as great news to BSG fans, as Crying Suns was an incredible game. Alt Shift has a lot of work ahead of them to live up to the series name but with the strong foundational knowledge from Crying Suns, my hope for the game’s quality isn’t scattered.

The Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes trailer shows off a considerable amount of gameplay, considering the two-minute runtime. The description of the trailer points out that the voices are there for promotional reasons only, and that’s apparent once you realize the voices draw attention to what’s happening immediately, without having to pause the trailer and read the UI.

As seen in Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes’ new footage, you must command and lead your fleet’s escape from the end of humanity’s settled worlds, known as the Twelve Colonies. Each run brings unpredictable scenarios, forcing you to juggle scarce resources, and resolve in-fleet conflicts while strategically investing in your crew, gear, and crucial meta upgrades, and potentially even expose imposters within your ranks. Each turn you take brings your fleet closer to an inevitable ambush from the Cylons, a robot species on an unwavering quest for humanity’s extinction.

It looks like you’ll be managing a lot in Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes, from fleet repairs to scrap management, going from the R&D lab to make fleet upgrades to fighting actual battles in space. The gameplay elements look great and the mix between in-game pixel art and clean, modern UI elements looks stellar.

Initially I thought the stilted voices and lack of emoting came from the use of AI voices being used for promotional materials, so I reached out to DotEmu for comment. They replied:

I can confirm the voicework in the trailer is NOT AI generated.

While AI use is something to be concerned about, especially as it encroaches in all areas of game development, it’s important to be mindful that something that seems AI generated doesn’t mean it is AI generated. Understanding the concern and wanting to do better is admirable, especially since they did nothing wrong. Although, that in and of itself raises further concerns and questions.

Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is aiming for an early 2026 release on PC via Steam. If you have any interest in the game at all, please add it to your wishlist. Those wishlist numbers matter! Keep an eye on the front page of MonsterVome as we continue coverage on roguelites, DotEmu, and Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes. So say we all.
