Celebrating two decades of creativity at the intersection of video games, art, and pop culture, iam8bit has announced the iam8bit 20th Anniversary Art Show, a two-day exhibition in Los Angeles honoring its legacy and the artists who helped define modern game-inspired art. The gallery opens its doors to the public on Saturday, November 8, and Sunday, November 9, at Studio 8 (614 E 12th St., Los Angeles, CA 90015).
The exhibition pays homage to iam8bit’s groundbreaking 2005 debut gallery show, which helped spark the retro-gaming art movement. Featuring more than 70 acclaimed artists from across the globe, the 20th Anniversary Art Show reimagines beloved gaming icons and consoles from the ‘80s and ‘90s through the lens of contemporary art. Fans can RSVP now via Eventbrite.
Celebrating Two Decades of Game-Inspired Creativity
From its early gallery shows to its industry-defining projects, iam8bit has evolved from an art collective into a global tastemaker. It publishes original games, produces award-winning soundtracks, and co-founds iconic events like Day of the Devs and Summer Game Fest: Play Days.
The 20th Anniversary Art Show revisits the company’s creative roots while celebrating its enduring impact on pop culture. Expect reinterpretations of classic characters like Mario, Sonic, and Mega Man, as well as tributes to the consoles and aesthetics that defined gaming’s golden era.
“It was extremely important for us to do something that called back to our roots,” said Jon M. Gibson, co-owner and co-creative director of iam8bit. “Twenty years after we started, we’re just as passionate today about showcasing how special video games can be as a pop culture art form.”
“This event celebrates our love of the industry, ambition, and sense of nostalgia,” added Amanda White, co-owner and co-creative director. “We’ve really gone above and beyond in making this a show that highlights how far we’ve come over the past 20 years.”
A Star-Studded Artist Lineup
The exhibition will feature works from an impressive roster of creators, including Alex Pardee, Paul Robertson, Luke Chueh, Rex Crowle, Keita Takahashi, Scott Campbell, Tara Billinger, and many more. Each piece offers a personal, inventive take on the characters and worlds that shaped generations of gamers.
Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase original artwork at the event, while limited-edition prints will be made available online following the show.
A Tribute to Art, Nostalgia, and Community
With its 20th Anniversary Art Show, iam8bit closes the loop on two decades of pioneering pop-culture projects, bridging art, music, and gaming history. From its humble beginnings as a local exhibition to its global influence as a creative powerhouse, iam8bit’s latest showcase is both a heartfelt tribute and a vibrant vision of what’s next.
