Independent developer Finite Reflection Studios has unveiled Mouseward, a nostalgic blend of N64-era collectathon and Soulslike challenge, coming soon to PC via Steam. Set in a fallen kingdom cursed by a mysterious starfall, players step into the paws of a Royal Mouse Guard resurrected to restore order to a land now overrun by celestial corruption.
Classic Platforming Meets Modern Soulslike Combat
While Mouseward embraces the whimsical charm and colorful exploration of classic 3D adventures, its combat pulls no punches. Players must master stamina-based battles, timing dodges, and parries against ferocious foes while managing resources wisely. Every defeat is a lesson learned, not the end of the journey.
Between tense encounters, players can scurry through rat-built castles, fog-shrouded forests, and magical ruins, collecting celestial fragments to unlock new powers, open secret paths, and uncover the truth behind the kingdom’s downfall.
Customize Your Mouse Guard
Customization plays a key role in Mouseward. Whether wielding a sword and shield, bow and arrow, or arcane starlight abilities, players can tailor their builds with diverse armor sets and weapons. The world also brims with quirky woodland characters, each with their own stories that mix warmth and melancholy, a perfect balance of tone that nods to Moss and Dark Souls alike.
Developed by a Team of Four
Based in Atlanta, Finite Reflection Studios is a four-person team known for its offbeat, nostalgia-driven projects, including 2024’s Void Sols. An early build of Mouseward is currently available on itch.io, and players can join the community via Discord or follow updates on Bluesky.
