Blumhouse Games and Vermila Studios have unveiled the first episode in a brand-new behind-the-scenes video series for their upcoming psychological horror title, Crisol: Theater of Idols, which is set to launch in early 2026. The series promises an in-depth look into the eerie inspirations, lore, and design process behind one of next year’s most disturbing horror experiences.
Exploring the Horrors of Tormentosa
The premiere episode takes viewers on a guided tour through the demented island of Tormentosa, the haunting setting of Crisol: Theater of Idols. Located off the coast of Hispaña, Vermila’s dark, twisted reimagining of Spain, Tormentosa, is steeped in rich cultural references and unsettling beauty. The island’s architecture, religious iconography, and design elements draw heavily from Spain’s historical and artistic traditions, creating a world that feels both familiar and nightmarish.
The episode also gives players a look at The Fair, a rare respite amid the game’s terror. Styled after a traditional Spanish fairground, this hub area serves as a resting place where players can interact with the island’s less threatening inhabitants, upgrade their abilities, and enjoy optional minigames between bouts of intense survival horror.
A Cultural Horror Story in the Making
Crisol: Theater of Idols aims to blend deep-rooted Spanish folklore and history with unsettling psychological horror. Vermila Studios’ approach combines cultural authenticity with the signature cinematic horror atmosphere for which Blumhouse Games is known. The result is shaping up to be an unforgettable blend of folklore, fear, and faith, a true love letter to Spanish horror tradition.
Coming in 2026
Crisol: Theater of Idols will launch in early 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Players can wishlist the game on Steam now to stay up to date on future episodes of the video series and upcoming announcements.
