The long-running Brigandine series is making its return to PlayStation with Brigandine Abyss, a new single-player fantasy strategy RPG launching on PlayStation 5 in 2026.
Revealed during today’s State of Play, the game marks the franchise’s latest chapter, six years after Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia. The original Brigandine debuted on the first PlayStation in 1998, and this newest entry once again brings players to a war-torn fantasy continent defined by hex-based tactical battles.
Six Factions, One Continent at War
Brigandine Abyss takes place on the continent of Meltitea, where a powerful empire schemes to conquer the land. Players can choose to lead one of six factions, each with its own protagonist and storyline, shaping the fate of the continent through strategic decisions and battlefield victories.
As ruler, you’ll command knights and monsters in turn-based battles fought across hex-grid maps, a hallmark of the series. Troops must be deployed carefully, leveraging unit skills, elemental affinities, and unique traits to overcome increasingly difficult encounters.
The narrative unfolds through six primary story arcs, while optional side quests explore the histories of Meltitea’s 24 total factions, offering branching events and multiple perspectives on the continent’s conflict.
Over 100 Units and 200+ Hours of Strategy
Brigandine Abyss carries forward the series’ core mechanics while introducing new systems that have yet to be fully detailed.
Players can expect:
- Over 100 unique units, each with distinct skills, elements, and traits
- Hex-based tactical combat
- RPG progression systems
- Fully realized 3D battlefields designed to enhance immersion
With six main campaigns and extensive side content, the game promises over 200 hours of gameplay, catering to strategy veterans and completionists alike.
A New Development Team and Producer Vision
Producer Masaru Saito shared a brief message following the reveal, noting that Brigandine Abyss is designed to be welcoming for newcomers while preserving what longtime fans love about the series.
While each Brigandine entry features its own setting and characters, Saito emphasized his personal investment in the project and the passion driving its development under a new team.
