Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish is the next game from Teyon, with Nacon officially unveiling the first-person action RPG during today’s Xbox Partner Showcase. Set in the World of Darkness universe, the game is slated to launch in summer 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
For Teyon, this is a notable shift. After RoboCop: Rogue City, the studio is moving from a licensed shooter into something broader, darker, and more choice-driven. For World of Darkness fans, it marks the return of Hunter: The Reckoning to games roughly two decades after the last title tied to the setting.
A dark New York built around hunting monsters in secret
In Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish, players step into the role of a Hunter in an expansive version of New York City, tracking monsters hidden among ordinary people who have no idea what is really stalking the streets. Vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural threats are said to be operating in secret, and your job is to find them before they find you.
That premise is a strong fit for the World of Darkness. The setting has always worked best when it leans into the tension between everyday life and the horror hiding behind it. Putting players in the role of someone who has learned the truth and decided to fight back gives Deathwish a clear identity from the start.
Custom hunters, player choice, and multiple ways to approach the hunt
Nacon says players will be able to customize their Hunter in a way inspired by the tabletop RPG, then explore the city freely while gathering clues, taking on side quests, and preparing for each target. The game is also built around player choice, with decisions in dialogue and missions leading to different outcomes and shaping the ending.
That part matters more than the usual press release promise. Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish is not being sold as a straight shooter. It sounds more like a hybrid of action RPG systems and detective work, with the added pressure of trying to survive in a city where the things you are hunting are far stronger than you are.
The game also lets players choose how they approach each lair, using brute force, stealth, or cunning. If Teyon can make those options feel distinct in play instead of cosmetic, that flexibility could end up being one of the game’s better features.
Companions, romance, and consequences
Another major part of Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish is its companion system. Players will join a hunter cell and work alongside five companions, each with their own backstory and personality. Nacon says those characters can support you during hunts, build relationships with you over time, and even become romance options.
That adds a layer of party-driven RPG structure that should help the game stand apart from a simple monster-hunting shooter. There is also some risk there. Companion systems and romance options are easy to promise and harder to make memorable. Still, if Teyon gives the cast enough room to breathe, they could provide the emotional side the setting needs.
Choices will also affect your standing with allies and may draw attention from law enforcement, which is a smart touch. In a modern urban setting, a person waging a private war on monsters should not be able to do it cleanly.
Teyon’s most ambitious project yet
Nacon is calling Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish Teyon’s most ambitious project so far, and it is not hard to see why. Given the larger RPG structure, branching choices, urban setting, and World of Darkness license, this is clearly a bigger swing than the studio’s previous work.
That does not mean it will all land. The concept is good, but this kind of game needs strong writing, convincing world-building, and combat that can handle everything from stealth to open fights. If one part is weak, the whole thing can wobble.
Still, as a reveal, Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish has a solid hook. It brings back a known name, uses a setting that still has plenty of room for games, and gives Teyon something darker and more interesting to work with than another straightforward action license.
