Knights Peak and Windup Games have released a new deep dive for Hela: of Mice & Magic, giving players a closer look at the animals and natural environments found throughout its Northern Sweden-inspired world.
Alongside the new footage, the team also released a three-hour ambient video featuring sounds and environments from the game to coincide with Mental Health Awareness initiatives.
Animals Are More Than Background Characters
The latest deep dive highlights how animals play a larger role in Hela: of Mice & Magic beyond simply filling the world.
Players can learn from creatures they meet during their adventure. One example shown is a squirrel that challenges players to keep pace through the treetops. Completing these encounters can reward players with items used for potion brewing inside the witch’s hut, unlocking new abilities.
Other animals can become companions. The developers highlighted a hare that begins cautiously but can gradually be befriended. Once trust is built, players can call on it for faster travel across the game’s environments.
Exploring a Living World
The developers also emphasized the game’s focus on environmental detail, with forests populated by insects, dragonflies moving across waterways, and birds filling the skies overhead.
In Hela: of Mice & Magic, players take control of a small mouse helping a witch protect the land she has watched over for generations. Players can explore forests, meadows, wetlands, and underground areas either solo or cooperatively, using a magical backpack that unlocks new movement and interaction options.
Hela: of Mice & Magic is scheduled to launch in 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
