Milestone Unveils New Screamer Gameplay Details and Developer Insights

Milestone is pulling back the curtain on its highly anticipated anime-inspired arcade racer, Screamer, with a brand-new developer interview featuring Game Director Federico Cardini and Creative Director Michele Caletti. The duo shares a behind-the-scenes look at how the studio is pushing the boundaries of arcade racing design, combining anime flair with tactical driving and team-based combat.

The new gameplay breakdown video showcases the creative vision behind Screamer, which is set to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Twin-Stick Racing, Team Strategy, and the Echo System

One of Screamer’s standout innovations is its Twin Stick control system, which separates steering and drifting for unprecedented precision. Players can perform razor-sharp turns with one stick while pulling off aggressive drifts with the other, offering a new level of finesse rarely seen in arcade racers.

Races feature teams of three drivers, each with a unique role and vehicle. Team leaders drive for speed and agility, while support members focus on combat and disruption. Across 15 distinctive cars, players can experiment with characters and vehicle abilities to find the perfect balance between racing and fighting.

The game’s mysterious Echo System ties its racing and combat together, using two energy types, Sync and Entropy, to power performance boosts, shields, and offensive moves like Strike and Overdrive. These mechanics aren’t just for gameplay; they also feed into Screamer’s broader narrative universe. A follow-up video will explore the Echo System in even greater depth.
