tinyBuild and Questing Goose Studio have announced Probably Stolen, a cyberpunk pixel-art shopkeeping simulator where your inventory is rarely clean, and your customers are rarely safe bets.
The game is available to wishlist now on Steam, with a debut Steam playtest live today.
Run a Shady Shop in the Lower Levels
Probably Stolen takes place on a dystopian space station divided by wealth and corruption.
Players run a shop in the Lower Levels, buying, selling, crafting, and smuggling goods with questionable origins. Profit comes first, but every item can bring new problems, from inspections and raids to angry customers and faction pressure.
Pick Your Trade and Your Trouble
Players can start as a gunsmith, chemist, water merchant, fence, farmer, or begin from rock bottom.
Each product type carries its own risks. Weapons can trigger inspections. Contraband can bring raids. Some trades need permits or machinery, while others rely on hiding things well enough to survive another day.
Customers Can Be Worse Than the Goods
Every sale in Probably Stolen comes with a read on the person at the counter.
Customers might be Security looking for evidence, a revolutionary hunting for leverage, or someone shady testing what you will allow. Players can approve sales, refuse them, report people, or look the other way.
There is also rent to worry about. The landlord raises costs over time, forcing players to take narrower margins or bet big when the business starts to sink.
Shoot When Needed
Probably Stolen also throws danger into the shop itself.
Rogue AI-augmented individuals may appear among regular customers, and every faction agrees they should be shot on sight. Spotting threats before they cause damage becomes part of keeping the store alive.
Probably Stolen is now available to wishlist on Steam, with its playtest starting today.
