Drinkbox Studios has announced that Blighted will now launch in 2027, moving the search-action RPG out of its previously planned 2026 release window.
The studio says it needs additional development time to polish and tune the game before release.
Drinkbox Moves Blighted to 2027
Drinkbox shared the delay in its latest development update.
“The team has been working hard (and growing!), but we feel we still need a bit more time to polish and tune the game before launch,” Drinkbox’s Josh Davis said.
The studio plans to share more Blighted news in 2027, though another developer update is planned before the end of 2026.
New Look at Watcher’s Peak
The latest development update also included new footage and images of Watcher’s Peak, one of Blighted’s hub areas.
Blighted sends players through a psychedelic western nightmare as they fight to reclaim the memories of their people following an attack by Sorcisto.
Players can tackle the full campaign alone or through local and online co-op.
Blight Changes Combat and Exploration
The central Blight system acts as a dynamic difficulty mechanic.
Increasing Blight changes enemies, the player character, and surrounding areas. It can make encounters harder while also opening paths and access to hidden sections.
Defeating bosses lets players consume their memories, gaining additional abilities while increasing their Blight.
Combat focuses on timed attacks, combos, and finishers, with character growth tied directly to exploration and boss encounters.
More Blighted News Coming
Drinkbox Studios is developing Blighted; their previous games include Guacamelee!, Severed, and Nobody Saves the World.
Jim Guthrie is composing the soundtrack, following his work on Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, Below, and Nobody Saves the World.
Blighted is now scheduled to launch sometime in 2027.
