Devolver Digital has announced that Virtue and a Sledgehammer launches on October 27 for PC via Steam for $14.99.
Developed by Deconstructeam and Selkie Harbour, the narrative exploration game sends players back to their hometown, now populated by android copies of its former residents, with a sledgehammer serving as the main tool for confronting the past.
Tear Down Your Old Hometown
Players can use the sledgehammer to destroy buildings and smash mechanical human replicas scattered throughout the town.
Breaking apart these locations awakens memories tied to the protagonist’s past and the place they once called home.
The game questions what violent catharsis actually accomplishes as destruction brings old fears and emotions back to the surface.
Interactive Fiction Explores Family and Tradition
Destructive exploration is paired with cinematic interactive-fiction sequences.
These scenes examine the protagonist’s fears, desires, family relationships, traditions, and the complicated virtues and flaws passed down through generations.
The story also focuses on what it means to feel like a misfit within those expectations.
From Deconstructeam and Selkie Harbour
Virtue and a Sledgehammer comes from Deconstructeam, the studio behind The Red Strings Club and The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, alongside Selkie Harbour, developer of Many Nights a Whisper.
Devolver Digital will publish the game.
