Playable Worlds has announced that Stars Reach will launch on Steam Early Access on August 18. The sci-fi MMORPG comes from a team led by Raph Koster, known for his work on Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies.
Stars Reach is built as a sandbox MMO where player actions can leave lasting marks across planets, settlements, and ecosystems.
Shape a Living Galaxy
Stars Reach uses cloud-native tech to support a persistent galaxy where terrain, resources, and communities can change over time.
Players can reshape mountains, reroute rivers, burn forests, build settlements, craft gear, fight creatures, trade with others, and take part in long-term civilization building.
Classless Progression
Instead of fixed classes, Stars Reach uses open-ended progression.
Players can become explorers, crafters, journalists, politicians, warriors, or mix several roles together. That structure gives players room to build identities around what they do rather than a set job.
Early Access Content
At Early Access launch, players can visit multiple planets, craft equipment, take part in combat, and trade with other players.
Playable Worlds says player feedback will help shape development from here. Recent updates have added an expanded character creator, combat changes, and wildlife migration that can become more dangerous over time.
Future updates will introduce a galaxy-spanning hive mind capable of consuming entire planets. PvP and factions are planned for the full 1.0 release.
Paid Packs Confirmed
Stars Reach will launch into Early Access with three paid tiers.
The Firstlight Pack costs $29.99, the Voyager Pack costs $49.99, and the Cosmonaut Pack costs $79.99. Each tier includes different rewards and cosmetics.
