The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster launches May 13, 2027, on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. NIS America announced the release date alongside a new trailer for the hand-drawn storybook adventure.
The game comes from the developers of The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince and The Cruel King and the Great Hero. This time, the story follows a girl trying to save her sister from a disease that transforms people into picture books—and those books into monsters.
Mono Searches for a Cure to Paper Mortis
The story centers on Mono, a young girl whose sister contracts Paper Mortis. Described as incurable, the magical illness leaves Mono facing the possibility of losing her sister to a transformation she cannot stop through ordinary means.
Her search leads her to work with Mär, a monster driven by vengeance. Their partnership is necessary for Mono to reach the Libratarium, where her sister is being kept. Saving her means entering a place filled with the consequences of the same disease she hopes to overcome.
That setup connects the game’s storybook appearance directly to its central conflict. The books Mono encounters hold the stories of girls who were transformed, making each one part of the larger tragedy surrounding Paper Mortis.
Explore Picture Books, Solve Puzzles, and Fight Bosses
Players will enter different storybooks to learn about the girls who became them. Progress involves solving puzzles and confronting bosses as Mono continues looking for her sister.
The hand-drawn art resembles a picture book, carrying the fairytale style through the environments and characters. Alongside that presentation, the story deals with illness, family, and Mono’s willingness to accept help from a vengeful monster.
The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster arrives May 13, 2027, on Switch, Switch 2, PS5, and Steam.
