Warframe: 1999 Gets A Winter Release Window

Digital Extremes, the team behind the popular space shooter Warframe, recently showcased various new features in its upcoming project Warframe: 1999. As the name suggests, it’ll take place in 1999 instead of the far feature in which the base game is set.

Although Warframe: 1999 doesn’t have a release date, it’s scheduled to be released later this year during the Winter. For those unaware, in 1999, players will team up with various characters from the series in hopes of hunting down Dr. Entrati before the new year starts.

In addition to telling a new story, 1999 is packed with various A-List voice actors. These include the likes of Ben Starr (Final Fantasy 16), Amelia Tyler (Baldur’s Gate 3), Nick Apostolides (Resident Evil 4), and many more. What’s nice about this is that 1999 will also feature a romance system, meaning that you’ll be able to get to know these characters on a more personal level.

Of course, Warframe: 1999 also introduced new mounts, skins, and even weapons for players to show off to their friends. The Atomicyle can now be used as an explosive; it’s also now capable of drifting and can now bullet-jump.

Those hoping to play Warframe: 1999 a bit earlier may be happy to hear that there’ll be a playable prologue in August that picks up right after the events of Whispers in the Walls. In it, they’ll play as The Lotus Eaters, and according to a press release, it’ll set “the stage for the stakes of Warframe: 1999.”

“I feel so blessed that this incredible community trusts us with this strange new adventure we are setting off on with Warframe: 1999,” said Rebecca Ford, Creative Director of Warframe. “We’ve collaborated with our community collectively over the past 11 years and promise to continue to do so in an era full of space boy bands, Warframes and Protoframes meeting, and working to figure out: Where is Albrecht Entrati?

Lastly, Digital Extremes also announced a Warframe: 1999 anime short is in the works. Not much information is known about the anime as of right now, but it is confirmed to drop later this year.
