South of Midnight Release Date Set for April 2025 with New Gameplay Trailer

Compulsion Games has officially unveiled the release date for their Southern Gothic action adventure, South of Midnight. The game launches on April 8, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Steam and the Xbox app), and cloud platforms. Players eager to dive into the mysterious world of Prospero can access the game up to five days early with the Premium Edition, now available for pre-order.

A Deep Dive into the Gameplay and Story

The latest story trailer for South of Midnight introduces protagonist Hazel, who embarks on a journey to find her mother after a devastating hurricane ravages the fictional Southern town of Prospero. Along the way, Hazel discovers her identity as a “Weaver,” someone with magical abilities who can manipulate the threads of fate.

Players will use Hazel’s powers to overcome challenges like defeating mythological foes, solving puzzles, and restoring corrupted areas. Combat is infused with tactical depth through spells like “Push, Pull, and Weave,” which allow players to manipulate enemies and environments dynamically.

Southern Myths Come Alive

The trailer also teases some of the game’s eerie and folkloric creatures, including the blind albino alligator Two-Toed Tom, the monstrous spider-woman Huggin’ Molly, and the were-owl Rougarou. Each of these entities is inspired by Southern legends, bringing the macabre folklore of the Deep South to vivid life.

Hazel will also confront “Haints,” corrupted entities tied to haunting pasts, and unravel their mysteries using her magical abilities to return them—and their surroundings—to a state of balance.

A Love Letter to the Deep South

Compulsion Games has crafted Prospero as a rich tapestry of Southern-inspired landscapes, from swamps to Appalachian mountain ranges. The narrative promises a deeply personal story of family, resilience, and healing, wrapped in a 10-12 hour adventure.

The game’s soundtrack, composed by Olivier Deriviere, features traditional Southern musical styles blended with a haunting, otherworldly tone. It dynamically evolves to reflect the player’s journey, enhancing the game’s immersive atmosphere.
