Capcom’s legendary survival horror franchise is heading into all-new territory with Resident Evil Survival Unit, a mobile-first, real-time strategy game set in a parallel universe. Co-developed by Aniplex and JOYCITY, the game was officially unveiled during today’s online showcase, where pre-registration also opened on the App Store and Google Play.
Unlike the traditional action horror gameplay fans know and love, Survival Unit leans into base-building, strategic planning, and real-time defense battles. And yes—Resident Evil mainstays like Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Jill Valentine are along for the ride.
A New Take on Resident Evil, Set in a Parallel World
Resident Evil Survival Unit delivers an original storyline that begins with the protagonist waking up in a locked hospital after being used in Umbrella Corporation experiments. As the narrative unfolds, players enter a twisted timeline where familiar faces return, but nothing is quite the same.
This isn’t just a rehash—Survival Unit creates a new version of the RE universe, using the series’ signature characters, environments, and themes to explore new what-if scenarios through mobile-focused gameplay.
Strategy and Survival Meet in Real-Time
At the heart of Survival Unit is its base-building system, where players will maintain and upgrade a lavish mansion that functions as their hub. You’ll interact with returning characters, decorate your space with series-inspired furniture, and prepare for missions via the classic Weapons Merchant, making a return in a new role.
Combat is built around real-time defense battles, where your carefully constructed teams must fend off increasingly difficult waves of bio-engineered horrors. Success requires timing, character synergy, and environmental awareness.
Assemble Your RE Dream Team
Form a tactical squad using iconic characters across multiple Resident Evil entries. Each one offers distinct combat abilities and perks, enabling diverse team compositions. Fans can look forward to deploying classic heroes in new formations, blending tactical gameplay with nostalgic fanservice.
Yoshitaka Amano Designs an Original Creature
Legendary artist Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy, Vampire Hunter D) has joined the project as a guest designer, contributing an original monster called Mortem. With Amano’s signature surreal and ethereal style, Mortem adds a haunting new layer to the RE mythos—one that blends dreamlike terror with psychological dread.
Pre-Registration Now Live
Resident Evil Survival Unit is now open for pre-registration worldwide on iOS and Android, with a full release expected sometime in 2025.
