Hell Clock Launches on Steam – Fast-Paced Roguelike ARPG with Brazilian Historical Roots

Rogue Snail and Mad Mushroom’s Hell Clock has officially launched on Steam for $19.99, combining the high-speed intensity of a roguelike with the intricate depth of an action RPG. Set against a reimagined backdrop of Brazilian history, Hell Clock is a fiery take on the late 19th century War of Canudos—where you’ll battle demons, rewrite the past, and race against time using the titular Hell Clock.

Built by a Brazilian development team and deeply rooted in the country’s culture, Hell Clock retells a chapter of history rarely seen in video games. With a full three-act campaign, an early version of an endgame mode called Ascension, and a roadmap stretching into 2026—including a full expansion titled Hell Clock: Cursed War—Rogue Snail is setting up shop in the roguelike and ARPG scene for the long haul.

“This is our love letter to ARPGs, roguelikes, and Brazilian history,” said Mark Venturelli, CEO of Rogue Snail. “Our goal with Hell Clock was to fit the feeling of an entire Path of Exile league or Diablo season into just a few hours.”

A Personal and Political Descent Into Hell

In Hell Clock, you play as a revenant soldier caught in the eternal loop of time and death. Revived by a mystical clock, you descend repeatedly into the depths of Purgatory and Hell to fight the ghosts of Brazil’s violent past—specifically those responsible for the massacre of Canudos.

Combat is fast, combo-heavy, and deeply customizable. From knife-dancing melee builds to ranged run-and-gun setups or bell-swinging juggernauts, you’ll discover dozens of abilities and relics that enable wild build diversity. Rogue Snail also emphasizes player flexibility, with both Hardcore and Relaxed modes available at launch.

“Hell Clock is much more personal than a typical ARPG,” Venturelli continued. “I grew up in Bahia, where the War of Canudos took place. This game is about sharing that story with the world.”

Launch Features and What’s Coming Next

Rogue Snail has also unveiled a content roadmap, which includes gameplay updates and a full expansion pack, Hell Clock: Cursed War, arriving in 2026. For launch, players can grab the base game or the $29.99 Supporter’s Edition, which includes:

  • The full game
  • The original soundtrack
  • The “Step into Hell” visual effect
  • Future access to Cursed War

Key Features:

  • Speed Meets Strategy – Every second counts as you push further into purgatory. Build fast, fight faster.

  • Historical Fantasy – A rare dark fantasy RPG rooted in Brazilian history and political memory.
