Cronos: The New Dawn Dev Diary Dives Into Sci-Fi Horror Story Ahead of September Launch

Bloober Team has released a brand-new Developer Diary for Cronos: The New Dawn, giving fans a closer look at the haunting sci-fi horror narrative behind its upcoming September 5 release. The studio—best known for the Silent Hill 2 remake—dives into the psychological and philosophical themes that fuel the game’s story, including the mysterious soul extraction process, the origins of the Travelers, and the central role of a cryptic character known as the Warden.

A Journey Through a Broken World — and Time

Cronos: The New Dawn takes place in Nowa Huta, a district of Kraków, Poland, across two radically different timelines: a harsh industrial 1980s setting and a bleak post-apocalyptic future. The contrast between the two periods fuels the game’s chilling atmosphere, as players step into the shoes of the Traveler, uncovering humanity’s downfall and confronting existential questions along the way.

The newest dev diary features key insights from Producer Klaudia Sewera and Lead Narrative Designer Grzegorz Like, who explain how the story balances horror with themes of personal identity and societal decay. According to the team, Cronos is more than a survival horror title—it’s an emotional, nonlinear narrative grounded in real-world history and dystopian vision.

Meet the Warden

Also revealed in the recent trailer is the Warden, a major new character who oversees the tools and serves as a philosophical counterpoint to the protagonist. Voiced by Alan Turkington, the Warden will be a constant presence in the player’s journey, guiding them through the game’s hub area and confronting them with the harsh truths of their mission.
