Phoenix Game Productions, alongside co-publishers 3DM Games and Gone Shootin, has announced that the cyberpunk action title Tokyo Underground Killer will launch worldwide on Steam on September 5, priced at $9.99.
Players take on the role of Kobayashi, the infamous “Shinjuku Vampire,” an elite assassin working for Japan’s most powerful crime syndicate, Gokuraku. From back-alley brawls to supernatural swordplay, you’ll battle through a gritty, neon-lit vision of Tokyo inspired by real-world locations like Shinjuku and Akihabara.
Fast Steel Meets Supernatural Fury
Combat in Tokyo Underground Killer mixes lightning-fast katana duels with 10 supernatural Blood Skills from summoning fire tornadoes to draining life directly from your enemies. Players can unlock new abilities over time, eventually facing off against 10 uniquely designed bosses, each with their own deadly flair.
The game also boasts:
- Dynamic Urban Stages – From rain-slick Shinjuku streets to Akihabara’s chaotic glow.
- English & Japanese Voice Acting – Featuring Hidekatsu Shibata (Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball) as crime boss Ishihara.
- Comic Book Storytelling – Nearly 100 pages of hand-drawn panels by artist Hans Steinbach.
- Killer Soundtrack – Composed by Andrew Hulshult (DOOM Eternal, Dusk).
A Fever-Dream of Tokyo’s Underworld
Studio head Daniel Hedjazi describes the game as “a violent, fever-dreamish vision of Tokyo”, blending maniac Yakuza bosses, revenge-driven idols, and sinister cult leaders with dark humor and unexpected twists.
With a team featuring veterans from PlatinumGames, Capcom, and CyberConnect2 and experience co-developing Resident Evil 4 Remake, Tokyo Underground Killer is Phoenix Game Productions’ first original in-house release.
