Originally released as an early access title on Steam, The Rogue Prince of Persia has been in early access for over a year. Announced today during the Xbox Gamescom broadcast, The Rogue Prince of Persia has finally entered 1.0 and is coming to consoles with a Switch release planned for later this year.
The Rogue Prince of Persia may have flown under some radars as an early access title but the roguelite spin on the Prince of Persia 2D formula looks very polished and has a ‘very positive’ review score on Steam. Bringing users into the fold by releasing on early access isn’t common for bigger developers though, despite early access becoming available on Steam since 2013. No stranger to early access, Evil Empire, the developer of Dead Cells, is very excited to release the 1.0 version of The Rogue Prince of Persia and finally get the game out of early access. Lucie Dewagnier, Game Director at Evil Empire had this to say about the release:
“We’re incredibly grateful to the Steam community for embracing The Rogue Prince of Persia during its early access journey. Thanks to their feedback, we’ve delivered over fifteen major updates—introducing new biomes, weapons, enemies, and gameplay systems. Their passion helped us shape the game into the fast, fluid, and replayable experience we always envisioned. We can’t wait for more people to discover our game in its final form and inevitably bob their head to the banger soundtrack.”
The soundtrack, performed and produced by ASADI, will receive 13 new tracks on top of the existing soundtrack that was released in 2024. ASADI will also release a vinyl version of the soundtrack through Laced Records.
The Rogue Prince of Persia blends fluid, acrobatic combat with challenging parkour and a rich narrative of redemption. Players must navigate procedurally generated levels, uncover secrets, and meet new characters as they attempt to right a fatal mistake that doomed their people. Each run offers new opportunities to adapt and evolve, forging a unique playstyle through exploration and discovery. With over 100 weapons and medallions to unlock and master, players can customize their build according to their playstyle and needs. Agility is key: wall-running, dodging traps, and chaining stylish combos are essential to survival. To get to the true outcome of this epic story, players will have to rewrite fate, save Persia, or die trying.
The Rogue Prince of Persia is out now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Ubisoft Connect, and Epic Games Store. The Rogue Prince of Persia is also available on PlayStation Plus Premium Subscription as well as Xbox Cloud and Xbox on PC with Game Pass(Xbox version included as well if that wasn’t clear.) The game is also available through Ubisoft+ on PC and, laughably, Amazon Luna. The Switch and Switch 2 versions of the game will be coming later this year.
