Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold, the sixth expansion for the MMO, set to launch in January 2027. The reveal took place during Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 in Anaheim, where Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida shared the first details on the next story arc.
Evercold begins the Godless Realms Saga, with the Warrior of Light heading to a new region known as the Fourth.
Evangelion Crossover Raid Revealed
One of the larger announcements tied to Evercold is Evangelion – Ghosts of Desire, a new alliance raid series created in collaboration with khara. The crossover brings elements from the long-running anime into Final Fantasy XIV, adding a new set of large-scale encounters tied to the expansion.
Battle System Overhaul and New Jobs
Evercold will introduce a major battle system update with two modes:
- Reborn Mode, based on the current combat system
- Evolved Mode, which focuses more on job identity
New jobs introduced in Evercold will be playable only in Evolved Mode. The expansion will also raise the level cap from 100 to 110 and add two new jobs, including a tank and a physical ranged DPS.
New Content and Systems
The expansion includes a wide range of additions across gameplay and progression:
- New cities and areas
- New dungeons, trials, and raid series
- A new Ultimate raid
- PvP updates
- New allies and enemies
System updates will also expand character customization, adjust progression through a new Seasons system, and update the Armoury system for players managing multiple jobs.
Patch Roadmap and Free Trial Expansion
Square Enix also outlined upcoming patches leading up to Evercold, starting with Patch 7.5 on April 28 and continuing with multiple updates later in the year.
On the same day, the Final Fantasy XIV free trial will expand to include the Shadowbringers expansion, bringing more content into the free offering.
Switch 2 Version Coming in August
Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV is also coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in August 2026. The release will include an early access period before full service begins.
