Furyu has kicked off a new daily video series highlighting the students of Kousei Academy, the setting of the upcoming high school RPG Varlet. The series runs through launch on August 27, with short English-subtitled music videos showcasing the game’s diverse cast of students.
The first two spotlights introduce Aruka Arasaki, a second-year idol striving to be recognized for her talent rather than just her beauty, and Taki Sukina, a top-performing third-year student battling the pressures of his demanding home life while dreaming of freedom.
A High School RPG with a Moral Compass
At the core of Varlet is its Triad Stats system, a unique character progression mechanic that balances Light and Dark attributes. Player choices throughout the school year influence these stats, shaping both personality and combat potential.
- Light Triad stats emphasize altruism, morality, and support abilities, unlocking powerful buffs to aid allies.
- Dark Triad stats lean into psychopathy, narcissism, and manipulation, unlocking aggressive combat skills and morally complex dialogue options.
Every decision, from classroom interactions to story-critical events, nudges the protagonist closer toward one of these paths, opening new abilities, alternate scenarios, and unique combat options along the way.
Get to Know Yourself Before School Starts
To further engage fans, Furyu has also released a “Triad Diagnosis” personality test, allowing players to see where they might fall on the Light vs. Dark spectrum ahead of the game’s release.
Varlet launches August 27, on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
