007 First Light has received a new Beyond the Light developer diary, with IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios releasing the third episode of the series to focus on the game’s narrative design ahead of launch.
The new episode looks at how the team is approaching James Bond’s origin story for games, framing this version of Bond as younger, more idealistic, and still stepping into espionage for the first time. 007 First Light is set to launch on May 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
IO Interactive details its take on a younger Bond
In the new episode, Main Writer Michael Vogt explains how the team built the story using traditional screenwriting elements like structure, character arcs, and theme, then adapted that framework into an interactive format alongside level design.
According to IO Interactive, that process shaped a version of Bond that feels less cynical and more adventurous. Rather than presenting an already fully formed 007, 007 First Light focuses on a Bond who is eager to prove himself and is still growing into the role.
The episode also touches on the core traits the team sees as essential to Bond, including charisma, boldness, calm under pressure, and resourcefulness, while also adding a more idealistic edge to fit this earlier version of the character.
Pre-orders are live now across all platforms
IO Interactive also confirmed that 007 First Light is available to pre-order now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, and Amazon.
Players who pre-order the game will receive a free upgrade to the Deluxe Edition, which includes 24-hour Early Access along with exclusive in-game items and outfits. IO Interactive also says both the Collector’s Edition and Legacy Edition are available.
