Sigma Star Saga DX Out Now on Switch, PS5, and Steam

Sigma Star Saga DX is out now digitally on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam, with WayForward bringing back the sci-fi shoot-’em-up/RPG in an updated version for modern platforms.

Licensed by Bandai Namco Entertainment America, the new release updates the original Game Boy Advance title from 2005 with a range of quality-of-life improvements and new bonus features. The game is priced at $19.99, and players on Switch and Steam can get a 10% launch discount through April 20.

A genre-blending sci-fi cult classic returns

Created by Shantae series director Matt Bozon, Sigma Star Saga DX combines top-down exploration with side-scrolling spaceship combat and RPG progression. Players take on the role of Ian Recker, a pilot for the Allied Earth Federation who becomes a double agent tasked with infiltrating the invading Krill empire.

On foot, players explore six planets, collect new gear, and unlock tools that open additional paths. When enemies attack, the game shifts into space-shooter battles, where players can customize their ship with more than 70 Gun Data items, creating over 15,000 weapon combinations.

DX version adds updates and new features

While Sigma Star Saga DX keeps the graphics, gameplay, and audio style of the original release, this new version includes several updates from the original WayForward team. These changes include an improved map, lower random encounter rate, rebalanced EXP system, adjusted auto-fire, more save points, and various bug fixes.

The new console and PC release also includes extra features, such as a concept art gallery, a music player, multiple border art options, save states, and a rewind function.

An all-new vocal theme song, “Jet Among the Stars,” is also included, performed by DemonDice and Megan McDuffee.
