The 9th Dragon has released a Steam demo covering its first two chapters. Publisher Headup and developer FrameOver launched the preview ahead of this month’s Steam Next Fest, offering approximately 20–30 minutes of combat, exploration, and core mechanics.
FrameOver also shared a new behind-the-scenes video examining how the team combined different fighting styles and finishing moves.
Test Combos, Parries, and Finishers
The beat ’em up takes its fights into cramped rooms and narrow alleys, where you’ll use combos, blocks, parries, and dodges to break enemy defenses.
Stealth kills and environmental interactions provide additional ways to handle encounters. Alongside hand-to-hand attacks, the full game’s arsenal includes pistols, Uzis, shotguns, flamethrowers, and explosives.
The latest development video focuses on the combat system and the variety of techniques the team has brought together.
Explore 1980s Kowloon Walled City
Beyond fighting, The 9th Dragon sends you across rooftops, through tight corridors, and between buildings in its interpretation of Kowloon Walled City.
Hidden passages offer reasons to explore, while enemies and bosses bring different weapons and fighting styles to encounters. Decisions throughout the story shape the protagonist Rookie’s development and the game’s ending.
You can find the game and its demo through The 9th Dragon’s Steam page.
