Village in the Shade, a farming game from the creators of the Yomawari series, is available now on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC. Published by Nis America, the hand-painted adventure invites players to settle into a Japanese mountain village with a few rules that might be best left unbroken.
Make a Home in Kagatsu
Set in the village of Kagatsu, Village in the Shade lets you grow crops, decorate your home, and get to know your neighbors. You can buy furniture in town and use gathered resources to craft fences and other homestead additions.
Village life also includes fishing, hunting, and seasonal activities such as cherry-blossom viewing and a summer festival. Spending time with your neighbors lets you build relationships as you settle in.
Follow the Rules—or Face the Village’s Secrets
Kagatsu’s peaceful routines come with three instructions: don’t talk to strangers, don’t leave the village, and don’t go out at night. Breaking those rules can lead you toward the village’s more unsettling secrets.
If you’d prefer to stick with countryside living, Village in the Sunshine mode prevents you from breaking the rules. You can farm, fish, hunt, and spend time in Kagatsu without facing the consequences of breaking them.
Village in the Shade is now available on Switch, Switch 2, PS5, and PC for $49.99. Find it on Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Nintendo eShop.
