Respawn’s Next Game is a Sci-Fi Shooter

EA Games President Frank Gibeau stated to CVG at a press meeting that the Respawn project will release when there’s an “opportunistic window” for what will be a “sci-fi shooter.” Gibeau stated that he plans to alternate Battlefield and Medal of Honor games on an annual basis.

Gibeau is touting the two year development cycle through technology advancements like Frostbite 2 and its online models. You know, that EA Online Pass that everyone loves. The rotation, Gibeau, hopes that it will hopefully avoid brand fatigue, a dig at rival Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty series perhaps. Whereas, Insomniac’s latest action game, Overstrike, and Respawn’s sci-fi game notes that it will be released when the time is most opportune.

He notes Insomniac/Respawn’s titles as more of a sci-fi shooter fare and be competitively placed against the current notables in the genre like Gears of War and Halo during the calendar year. The rumor that Respawn’s next game had all pointed to it being a sci-fi shooter and now Gibeau’s remarks confirm it. Can’t wait for the inevitable Call of Duty in Space vs. Halo/Gears comparisons. You know it to be true.
