The Galaxies showcase streamed today and I’m just exhausted keeping track of all of these shows. One of the games featured in the showcase is one I’m anticipating, FBC: Firebreak by Remedy Entertainment. The first-person mission based co-op shooter taking place inside the Oldest House with the Federal Bureau of Control. As we draw ever closer to the Summer of 2025, Remedy still hasn’t listed a price or release date for the game.
The trailer sounds like it’s framed around two guys from marketing, one named Jerry, and they’re working on a recruitment poster and looking for a slogan for the FBC: Firebreak team. The framing drops almost immediately, in less than 15 seconds we lose the framing of Jerry and his potential superior to just shots of the gameplay. Considering the emphasis on cohesive narrative with Remedy’s games, it’s a little concerning when the marketing doesn’t believe in their vision enough to maintain it throughout a minute-long trailer.
The trailer, mostly composed of short combat sequences, shows off the environmental hazards and escapades the FBC: Firebreak team can get into. Starting light by extinguishing some fire on the ground and eventually electricity grenades, giant fan systems, and exploding pink goo. As cynical as I am, I really love how this game looks. I just wish they’d nail down a price and a release date already. I love it when a game gets announced with a quick release date, but you need the release date part.
Announced just six months ago, the session-based multiplayer game has been aimed at a Summer 2025 release the entire time. Remedy promises future playable content will be free, including new missions which they call Jobs. This is also Remedy Entertainment’s first self-published title which is exciting, as the developer has been around for a while and has almost nothing but bangers under its belt.
More information is in sight though. Along with the trailer release today, FBC: Firebreak has a special livestream coming on April 24th at 10 AM PST / 6 PM GMT. The livestream will “offer fans a chance to learn more about the game, key launch details, and future plans.” You can watch the livestream on April 24th by way of the Remedy Twitch and YouTube channels. I am anticipating this.
FBC: Firebreak Key Features
FBC: Firebreak is a session-based, multiplayer PvE experience set within the acclaimed Control universe, delivering intense cooperative action. The game features highly replayable missions known as Jobs, each uniquely designed with different challenges, objectives, and environments that require teamwork and adaptability. Remedy will continue expanding FBC: Firebreak with post-launch content. All future playable content, including new Jobs, will be free. Players will have the option to purchase cosmetics, but none of these items will affect gameplay, and there will be no limited-time rotations or daily log-ins.
- Cooperative Chaos – Join forces with friends or strangers to tackle each job as a well-oiled crew. Survival in this three-player cooperative FPS hinges on quick thinking and seamless teamwork as you scramble to tame raging paranatural crises across a variety of unexpected locations. Improve your odds by utilizing the tools and skills that make you unique or improvising with whatever’s on hand to support your crew.
- Beyond Bullets – Before deploying, select your weapon and customize your Firebreaker’s Crisis Kit with specialized tools, grenades, support items, and paranatural augments… then modify them to suit your strategy and change the way you play. Experiment with different load-outs to perfect your playstyle and synergize with your team, giving you the edge to succeed in every job, no matter the difficulty.
- The Federal Bureau of Control – Return to the strange and unexpected world of Control or venture in for the first time in this standalone, multiplayer experience. Discover the iconic and unfathomable headquarters of the FBC — the Oldest House — from an entirely new perspective as a team of volunteer first responders with nothing but gear and guts to bring the Bureau back from the brink.
FBC: Firebreak has no official release date but a promise to release in the Summer of 2025. The game will release on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. In a very smart decision, the game will also release as part of PC Game Pass, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and PlayStation Plus Game Catalog (Extra and Premium). I just think it’s a wise idea to cast as wide a net as possible when dealing with multiplayer games. You can keep pumpin’ out content, but if nobody’s playing it, who cares. Keep an eye on MonsterVine front page as we continue to provide coverage on FBC: Firebreak and other Remedy Entertainment titles.
