GDC 09: Fallout 3 Wins GDC Game of the Year Award

Bethseda’s Fallout 3 was named Game of the Year at this year’s Game Developers Choice Awards, nominated from thousands of votes from various game developers and professionals.

The game also scored the Best Writing award. Media Molecule’s Playstation 3 platformer LittleBigPlanet was also given its due, winning four different awards that include Game Design, Technology, Innovation, and Best Debut.

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima was given the Lifetime Achievement Award, Harmonix co-founders Alex Rigopulos and Eran Egozy won the Pioneer Award for advancing the music game genre, and Tommy Tallarico recieved the Ambassador Award for “helping to advance the game audio community.”

In total 13 awards were given, all of which are as follows:

Game of the Year:
Fallout 3 (Bethesda Softworks)

Best Game Design:
LittleBigPlanet (Media Molecule)

Best Writing:
Fallout 3 (Bethesda Softworks)

Best Technology:
LittleBigPlanet (Media Molecule)

Best Visual Arts:
Prince of Persia (Ubisoft Montreal)

Best Debut Game:
LittleBigPlanet (Media Molecule)

Best Handheld Game:
God Of War: Chains Of Olympus (Ready at Dawn)

Innovation Award:
LittleBigPlanet (Media Molecule)

Best Audio:
Dead Space (EA Redwood Shores)

Best Downloadable Game:
World Of Goo (2D Boy)

Lifetime Achievement Award
Hideo Kojima

Pioneer Award
Alex Rigopulos and Eran Egozy
