Funcom has confirmed that Dune: Awakening will offer private server support starting June 5, the same day the game’s head start period begins. The full launch arrives just days later on June 10, but players eager to shape their own experience in the spice-filled sands of Arrakis now have reason to celebrate.
Available via third-party rental providers, private servers allow players to control access, tweak select gameplay rules, and even enable full PvP. It’s a highly requested feature from the Dune: Awakening community, and Funcom is making it happen from day one.
A Unique Take on MMO and Survival—With Player-Controlled Spaces
While private servers are a staple of many survival games, implementing them in Dune: Awakening wasn’t as straightforward. The game blends MMO-scale systems with survival mechanics, enabling hundreds of players to share a persistent, living world.
To maintain this dynamic, each private server will be part of a broader World, a collection of other private servers connected together.
- Private servers support 40+ concurrent players.
- Worlds consist of several servers, allowing hundreds of players to share common spaces.
- All servers in a World access the same Deep Desert and shared social hubs, creating opportunities for trade, exploration, and large-scale conflict.
What You Can (and Can’t) Customize
Private server hosts will be able to:
- Control who joins their server
- Adjust key gameplay settings, including PvP rules
- Create curated experiences for friends, communities, or roleplay
However, due to the shared nature of social hubs and the Deep Desert, some core systems will remain consistent across all servers in a World to preserve Dune: Awakening’s MMO-style continuity.
Launch Timeline
- Head Start: June 5, 2025 (with private server support)
- Full Launch: June 10, 2025
